Biography
Melissa was born in Bogota, Colombia to a Peace Corps Alumni Father and a Mother in the high fashion industry. She was raised primarily in Dallas, TX and traveled throughout her childhood. She found her love for Fine Arts @ The University of North Texas where she received her Bachelor of Visual Arts with a focus on Graphic Design, Photography and Experimental Art. In 2003 Melissa moved to Hollywood, CA. There she produced, wrote and directed Face Underground's Annual Avant-garde extreme performance art exhibitions. She also worked as a freelance graphic designer with JEMM Magazine part time and in hospitality the other part.
Melissa changed her name to Mickie when she came to L.A. it was like a spiritual thing and now is thinking of going back or changing it again..in the idea that we name ourselves.
Mickie has helped launch many restaurants and spent over 10 years part-time as a top trainer in the lead flagship Hillstone in Santa Monica 2011. That led into being the General Manager of a Martini Lounge in West Hollywood. Then in 2013 she went back full time into the Arts and worked on set with an internationally known fashion photographer, Markus Klinko. With over ten years in West Hollywood in 2014 Mickie launched The Misfit Gallery in The Bishop Arts District in Dallas. This includes owning, managing all aspects of operations, artist relations, public relations and curating hundreds of art gallery exhibitions.
Mickie fell in love with Eva Ericksen who works as a Creative Director for Rakuten. They got married and moved to Sydney with her wife's job opportunity. Mickie relentlessly landed a job as the Publicist for Black Eye Gallery & as the Strategic Partner for ArtSHINE Gallery.
Mickie and Eva her wife moved back to Los Angeles and for the past-year plus. Mickie is currently working with both as Studio Director for American Martin in LA and an International Strategic Partner for ArtSHINE in Sydney. They are looking to open a gallery again and have a space for the community.
